BRIEF INTRODUCTION

AURORA

IN ROMAN MYTHOLOGY, AURORA THE GODDESS OF THE DAWN. HER MYTH IS PARALLEL TO THAT OF THE GREEK GODDESS EOS AND THE DIVINITY OF RIG VEDIC USHAS. AURORA THE GODDESS RENEWS HERSELF EVERY MORNING AND FLIES ACROSS THE SKY, ANNOUNCING THE ARRIVAL OF THE MORNING. THE DAUGHTER OF THE TITAN HYPERION AND HER BROTHERS ARE THE SUN AND THE MOON. SHE HAD MANY HUSBANDS AND FOUR CHILDREN, THE WINDS OF THE CARDINAL POINTS. THE LEGEND SAYS THAT WITH THE LOVE OF TITHONUS THE SON OF THE LAOMEDON KING SHE GAVE BIRTH TO TWO CHILDREN, ONE OF WHICH, MEMNON, WAS KILLED DURING THE SIEGE OF TROY BY ACHILLES. FROM THAT DAY THE GODDESS AURORA CRIES INCONSOLABLY FOR HER CHILD EVERY MORNING, AND HER TEARS FORM WHAT WE CALL DEW.
