Painting, Drawing, Weaving
I’ve always loved textiles but having spent many years painting, convinced myself that ’that’s what I did’. On recent trips to Finland I noticed the sense of warmth that textiles brought to interior spaces. There’s a palpable touch of the human hand in woven cloth, the threading of warp and weft visually marking time. A suggestion too perhaps of wrapping and comfort, of human kindness.
So for the last 2 years or so I’ve been weaving and for now, as well as painting, this is what I do. This work uses the colours of Finland, exploring my engagement with Lapland in the north and the overwhelming elemental beauty that I see there.
